Grooming a Hairless
As we know, the hairless gene is variable, and some Hairless Cresteds have more body hair than others. For the show ring, this extra hair is removed. Here's one way this is accomplished

Here is my Jozee girl. On the picture at the left she had her hair grown for 3 months. Pretty cute isn't she? I debated a while before shaving her facial and her ear fringes off but I went ahead anyway. Here let's have a closer look:

Here on the left you can see that her front is naturally bear along the neck and quite sparse on her front sides also. From the back angle it is not hard so see that she is also quite hairless along the back of the legs.
As you can also see on the side view the hair on her sides are pretty sparse too. The sun reflection made it look a little better than it actually is but you can see better on this picture how the thickness really is.

Here you can see how I start shaving her on her sides. I use my small clipper as her hair is thin and this little wonder clipper is so nice to work with. Than I do the top of the back. I remove about this much on the tail also.

I finish at the neck and along the legs. I have a pet peeve for what is called a "cape"...this mean people leave some hair along the back to try to make I guess the crest look longer...yuk!...Then starting against the hair grain I kind of make myself a visual angle from the corner of the eye to a little lower than the ear.

Now you can see a little better the angle. I follow with the sides, nose and I finish with the top of the muzzle.

Here is the ear. As you can see in the first picture I sort of start right at the base but I do clip on an angle up to the "nick" of the ear.

Then I do the inside of the ear going upward starting from the inside firt, then the edge and finishing carefully along the ear against the hair grain...please do not try this until you are well trained!

A last touch for cleaning up the bristle hair left by the electric clipper. I use a Braun. As you can see Jozee didn't suffer from her shaving and actually seems to be quite happy about the whole thing!
